Wood (chips)

Teammembers: Leander Bossuyt, Toon Nachtergaele, Lowie Vermaete

Many processes (if not all!) in our atelier generate scraps. A scrap of production is different than 'waste' because it is recurrent, and predictable. For example, I can anticipate that 3% of my plate material gets discarded during laser cutting processes. Working with the lathe is a good example: when we work with it, we produce a huge amount of wooden chips (the process is substrative!) of which we know the most important characteristics.

For the past couple weeks we have been working on refining a recipe for a bio-material that uses these wood chips. This material is fully biodegradable and reusable. This material could be used in the atelier to make new prototypes. If you're interested in making this material for yourself, check out our instructable: https://www.instructables.com/Bio-degradable-Material-From-Wood-Chips/
